শব্দের রূপ বদলানোর শেষ ও শুরুর অংশ
Noun-forming suffix — action/state
-tion/-sion, -ment, -ness, -ity
Verb/adjective থেকে noun বানাতে এই suffix-গুলো যোগ হয়।
• act → action
• decide → decision
• govern → government
• kind → kindness
• able → ability
Noun-forming suffix — ব্যক্তি/কর্তা
-er/-or/-ist/-ian
যে কাজটা করে (কর্তা) বোঝাতে এই suffix-গুলো verb/noun-এর সাথে যোগ হয়।
• teach → teacher
• act → actor
• art → artist
• music → musician
Noun-forming suffix — অবস্থা
-ship, -hood, -dom
কোনো অবস্থা বা সম্পর্ক বোঝাতে এই suffix-গুলো ব্যবহার হয়।
• friend → friendship
• child → childhood
• free → freedom
• king → kingdom
Adjective-forming suffix — আছে/পূর্ণ
-ful, -ous, -ive, -ic
কোনো গুণ আছে বোঝাতে noun/verb-এর সাথে এই suffix যোগ হয়।
• beauty → beautiful
• danger → dangerous
• act → active
• base → basic
Adjective-forming suffix — নেই/উপযুক্ত
-less (নেই), -able/-ible (করা যায়), -al (সম্পর্কিত)
-less যোগে 'নেই' বোঝায়, -able/-ible যোগে 'করা সম্ভব' বোঝায়, -al যোগে 'সম্পর্কিত' বোঝায়।
• care → careless
• accept → acceptable
• sense → sensible
• nature → natural
⚠️ careful (যত্নশীল) ≠ careless (অসতর্ক) — বিপরীত অর্থ, গুলিয়ো না!
Adverb-forming suffix
adjective + -ly
Adjective থেকে adverb বানাতে সাধারণত -ly যোগ হয়। বানানে সতর্কতা: y→ily (easy→easily), le→ly (simple→simply)।
• careful → carefully
• quick → quickly
• easy → easily
• simple → simply
⚠️ easyly ❌ → easily ✅; simplely ❌ → simply ✅
Verb-forming suffix
-ize/-ise, -en, -fy
Adjective/noun থেকে verb বানাতে এই suffix-গুলো যোগ হয়।
• real → realize
• short → shorten
• wide → widen
• simple → simplify
• beauty → beautify
Negative prefix — un-
un- + adjective/verb
সবচেয়ে প্রচলিত নেতিবাচক prefix — বেশিরভাগ adjective/verb-এর সাথে যোগ হয়।
• happy → unhappy
• kind → unkind
• do → undo
• lock → unlock
Negative prefix — in-/im-/il-/ir-
in- (সাধারণ) · im- (b/m/p-এর আগে) · il- (l-এর আগে) · ir- (r-এর আগে)
শব্দের প্রথম অক্ষরের সাথে মিলিয়ে সঠিক নেতিবাচক prefix বাছাই করতে হয় (উচ্চারণের সুবিধার জন্য)।
• correct → incorrect
• possible → impossible
• legal → illegal
• regular → irregular
• mature → immature

Negative prefix — dis-/non-/mis-
dis- (বিপরীত/অভাব) · non- (নয়) · mis- (ভুলভাবে)
dis- বিপরীত অর্থ বা করা থেকে বিরত থাকা বোঝায়; non- সরাসরি 'নয়' বোঝায়; mis- 'ভুলভাবে' করা বোঝায়।
• honest → dishonest
• agree → disagree
• sense → nonsense
• understand → misunderstand
• lead → mislead
Prefix re- (আবার)
re- + verb
পুনরায় করা বোঝাতে re- যোগ হয়।
• write → rewrite
• read → reread
• build → rebuild
• consider → reconsider
Prefix pre-/post- (আগে/পরে)
pre- (আগে) · post- (পরে)
সময়ের আগে/পরে বোঝাতে এই prefix-গুলো যোগ হয়।
• war → prewar/postwar
• caution → precaution
• graduate → postgraduate
Prefix over-/under- (বেশি/কম)
over- (বেশি) · under- (কম)
প্রয়োজনের চেয়ে বেশি/কম বোঝাতে এই prefix-গুলো যোগ হয়।
• come → overcome
• estimate → underestimate
• sleep → oversleep
• age → underage
একই root থেকে পুরো word family
noun-adjective-adverb-verb — একই মূল থেকে বিভিন্ন রূপ
একটা মূল শব্দ থেকে সব parts of speech-এর রূপ মুখস্থ রাখলে Gap Filling (Module 4)-এ অনেক সুবিধা হয়।
• beauty (n) → beautiful (adj) → beautifully (adv) → beautify (v)
• care (n) → careful/careless (adj) → carefully (adv)
• danger (n) → dangerous (adj) → dangerously (adv)
Suffix যোগে বানান পরিবর্তন
double consonant, drop 'e', y→i
Suffix যোগ করার সময় কিছু বানান-নিয়ম মানতে হয়: শেষে single vowel+consonant হলে consonant double হয় (run→running), silent 'e' বাদ যায় (write→writing), consonant-এর আগে y থাকলে i হয় (happy→happiness, তবে -ing-এর আগে y-ই থাকে: study→studying)।
• run → running (double n)
• write → writing (e বাদ)
• happy → happiness (y→i)
• study → studying (y-ই থাকে, ing-এর আগে)
